The conference will take place at the Faculty of Economics (plenary sessions) and at the Faculty of Education. Our campus is within walking distance from the city centre (see the map below) and there are also several buses everyday. Lines 1, 3, 4 and 12 stop at the university every 30 minutes.

University of León

Faculty of Economics & Faculty of Education

Campus de Vegazana, s/n, 24071 León

León is a small Spanish city (approx. 150,000 inhabitants) on the famous pilgrimage route Camino de Santiago.

The city boasts an impressive history and some spectacular historic buildings. When you are visiting León, you should try and find the time to visit its Gothic cathedral, the Basilica of San Isidoro, the historic San Marcos hotel as well as having some local wine and tapas in the Barrio Humedo – León’s beautiful old quarter.

Getting to León

León is situated in the north-west of Spain. Most people travelling to León get early flights to Madrid airport and then get a bus (4 hours) or a train (2 hours) to León.

Travelling by train from Madrid

Trains to León depart from Chamartin Train Station. To get to the station from the airport, you can take a taxi (30€ set price) or you can get a direct commuter train from Terminal 4 to the train station (2€). To buy your train ticket to León, visit the Renfe website.

When choosing trains, it is recommended to choose an ‘Alvia’ or 'Ave' train as these are much more comfortable and faster than other trains. An Alvia usually takes less than 2.15 hours to travel to León. You should buy the tickets with 'Madrid Chamartín' as your departure point and 'León' as your destination.

Travelling by bus from Madrid

There are two options:

1. From Barajas Airport T4 terminal. It is possible to travel to León taking the bus at Barajas Airport (Madrid). The route goes from the ALSA bus stop, located in front of T4 Arrivals Terminal, to Madrid bus station and then on to León Bus Station. For further information and to buy your ticket online, visit the Alsa website. When you are entering your ‘departure point’, choose ‘Madrid Barajas Airport T4’. This means you will be able to get your bus to León directly from the airport Terminal 4 bus stop.

2. From the Bus Station Estación Sur de Autobuses, also called Estación de Méndez Álvaro. Subway station "Mendez Alvaro". The bus company that connects to León is called "ALSA". Again, it is possible to buy the ticket online through their website.

Staying in León

We have negotiated special prices at two good hotels in León for the days of the conference. You can see the details of how to book with these special offers in this document. León has many other hotels, hostels and Airbnb apartments. You will find lots of offers on Booking.com as well. Always confirm the price with the establishment when booking and be sure to mention that you are coming to the University of León as they often have special rates for the ULE. Try to find accommodation which is in the centre of town - this will facilitate you moving around in the afternoons and evenings. It is not recommended to look for accommodation near the campus.
